SAN FRANCISCO, May 21, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The CTIA–The Wireless Association® today announced that Rip Gerber, President and CEO of Locaid, has won the B!G Idea Award. The announcement was made today at CTIA 2013™ at the Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas. The award honors Rip Gerber as a mobile champion and visionary who is transforming the mobile ecosystem. Rip Gerber was noted for his influential role in mobile and cloud computing as the founder of "Location-as-a-Service." The Ingenious Innovator for Product & Service Innovation award is given annually to an exceptional candidate who exemplifies the ideals of innovation in technology.
Rip Gerber has built Locaid into the world's largest location company since launching the award-winning platform in 2011. Locaid has the largest addressable market of mobile and connected devices – over 4.8 billion worldwide. No other individual has created a bigger, or more strategic, success for the business case for carrier data APIs than Rip Gerber.
Rip has also impacted the role of mobile location in enterprise applications and government legislation, commenting directly on Congressional Bills (Franken et al), state government laws (Gov. Chris Christie on mobile gaming in New Jersey) and privacy advocacy (the CTIA, Mobile Marketing Association, Future of Privacy Forum). Mr. Gerber has also worked tirelessly to connect disparate platforms to better the mobile enterprise and connected consumer. In the evolving landscape between platforms (Apple, Google, Microsoft), "over-the-top" apps (Facebook, Twitter, Amazon) and wireless operators (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint), there is only one service connecting them all – Locaid.
"I am delighted that our work at Locaid has been recognized by the CTIA and leaders in the mobile industry," said Mr. Gerber. "This is a team award, one I accept on behalf of all of our incredible employees. This award belongs to everyone at Locaid, and we accept it in honor of our amazing customers."
Prior to Locaid, Mr. Gerber served in senior executive roles at public and private companies including Nokia, Carlson Companies and Deloitte Consulting. He holds several technology patents in wireless.
